GO Month is a legitimate event, I swear, I did not make it up! The National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) has been promoting GO month for the past 11 years to educate people about the benefits of becoming more organized.
What better month than January to get organized?? January is a time for setting resolutions and goals, it’s a time of excitement for what’s to come this year, and it’s a time to get organized!
Here are four easy projects you can finish quickly to help you kick off GO Month:
- Clean out your 2015 files. Pull tax documents so you have them ready for tax time. File away or scan archival documents and shred the rest. Set up any new files you will need for 2016. Now when your mail starts trickling in you will be ready to file it away.
- Clean out your pantry & fridge. Toss anything that is expired, is unidentifiable or that has been opened for an unknown period of time. Also, if eating healthier is on your list for 2016, use this as a chance to clear out the junk food and left over holiday treats.
- Clean out your clothes. What better way to start the year off right than having a closet full of clothes you love and that actually fit you?! Purge anything you haven’t worn in the past year no matter what size it is. Keep only the things that make you feel good when you wear them. *keep a bag in your closet that is for ongoing donations, anytime you try something on and hate it, put it in the donate bag right away!
- Clean out the toys. Purge, purge, purge. Anything broken, missing pieces, duplicate items, or outgrown. I promise you that kids thrive on the “less is more” theme. Keep the things they love to play with and donate the excessive and unnecessary toys.
Even if you just tackle one of these spaces you will feel encouraged, inspired, and motivated to have a successful and organized year ahead of you!
So remember January is GO MONTH! So get off to a fast start, and as you go through the month be aware of what areas or spaces in your life can be more organized, and do something about it!
